I have started my holiday shopping early and I am googly eyed over the charming and whimsical felted items from Made In Lowell.  Liz Smith is an artist who makes adorable items out of felt and wool.  Her charming little items will fill your heart with whimsy!!! Recently I had the opportunity to try out a fantastic line of hair products.  The brand is Shielo, and they were started in 2001 in NYC for salons that were on the cutting edge of the new volumizing and fortifying hair technologies.  In 2007, Shielo started selling their products to consumers, lucky for us!

I chose the Hydrate shampoo and conditioner, because my hair gets brittle and dry in the winter months.  The scent is light and fragrant, but not overbearing.  The shampoo lathers up beautifully.   The conditioner is lightweight and non greasy.  Once I dried my hair, I was astonished at how healthy and moisturized it felt!  This shampoo is truly salon quality. 

Shielo also offers shampoos specifically for volume, color protect, anti-aging and antioxidant.  Along with the shampoos are a full line of hair styling products from leave in protectants to styling cream and hair sprays. I was browsing online for cute summer must haves, such as wraps, beach cover ups, bags, flip flops etc.  I found a lot of cute stuff, and thought you might enjoy my finds! Check out these adorable and fresh summer must haves!!

I love this navy and white striped tote.  The cotton rope accent gives the bag a truly nautical look.  Pack this one and bring it to the beach, farmers market or lunch. I imagine it would do double duty as a baby bag as well!

Recently I purchased the new Nice n’ Easy Foam hair color. I had heard a lot about this product, and was intrigued by the idea of a foam instead of messy gels that drip and get all over my bath mat.

I purchased Medium Brown, which is touted to cover grays and give you luminous color.

The box included plastic gloves, instructions, and the color.  The foam bottle was easy to put together – but it did take me a few minutes to figure out you have to squeeze the bottle to dispense the foam.

The foam went on easily,  and it turns to liquid once it hits the hair strands, much like a typical hair mousse.

As I applied the hair color, the smell of ammonia was overwhelming.  I quite literally couldn’t stay in the bathroom, I had to dispense foam, put it on my hair, then run out to the living room for air. The odor is the strongest of any hair product I have ever used. That being said, I didn’t pass out, but I highly suggest that you apply this product in a very well ventilated area.

The foam stays on for 25 minutes, then you rinse and use the conditioner that they include in the package.

Overall, I am pleased with the results. The color was true to what was promised. My grays were covered adequately, and are lighter in color , providing ‘highlights’ .  Aside from the smell, I am happy with the product. I like the foam consistency, and I will use this product again.  Two thumbs up for Clairol Nice n’ Easy Foam.

I had the chance to try out the Liz Earle line of botanical shampoos and conditioners. The Botanical Shine Shampoo and Conditioner is full of natural ingredients that claim to leave your hair soft, shiny and healthy. With ingredients like Meadowfoam Oil, apple extract and West African Shea Butter, I had to give these a try!

The shampoo and conditioner have a light, fresh citrusy scent.  The shampoo lathers up nicely and smells fantastic. Follow with the matching conditioner and rinse.  My hair had that ‘just out of the salon’ feel to it.  Fresh, light and healthy.  I dried and styled it as normal, and my hair looked great!  I love this product, and it is very reasonably priced.

I have a little test I like to do with hairbrushes. First I like to see if it fits in my small kiddish size hands. I like to do this because I like to pretend I am a rock star and anyone who sings in their brush would agree that it just has to fit comfortably. Don’t laugh. You all know you do the same thing!

Well this brush has a wonderful feel to it. It has a soft plastic handle that contours correctly with your hand. As I was reviewing this brush I read that it is static-resistant. What? Are you kidding me? Really? So I tried it and yes it really does keep that static out of your hair. What a wonderful thing especially in this very unforgiving winter weather. And trust me, there is nothing worse then static hair. And this brush does just as advertised.

I always thought being eco-friendly was for other people. You know the people I’m taking about: the neighbor who duct tapes her Birkenstocks, the guy outside the library strumming his guitar and swaying his dreads to the music… But cosmetic company Lush changed my perception with a catalog full of stuff I would totally use. I mean hello, body butter! And sugar scrub, are you kidding?

All their products are made from fresh ingredients, package free (unless they have to, and then they use recycled and biodegradable materials), and made-by-hand. But I have to admit I was curious to how they could sell shampoo and conditioner without packaging. As a result of my digging, I think I found my new must-have beauty product: Solid Shampoo and Conditioner. And wouldn’t you know it, it’s one of their most environmentally friendly products they offer. Both the shampoo and conditioner look similar to a bar of soap but instead of lathering your body, you rub them on your scalp a couple times before giving it a good rinse. And just like a bar of soap these last forever (one bar is equivalent to a 25 oz bottle). And at less than $10 a pop you’re not only saving the planet, you’re also saving your money.
