Recently we had a heatwave in the Northeast, and I must admit I started longing for cooler days. I dreamed of leather jackets, cute scarves and luscious suede boots. Since we still have a little summer left to enjoy though, I decided to do the fall fashion primer instead!
This fall is going to be similar to last fall. The theme for Fall 2011 is the 70′s. Think disco. Think platforms. Think silk and feathers. The 70′s provided the best of both worlds for fashion- boho chic and sophisticated glamour. This season will give you ample opportunities to accessorize and glamorize with shoes and bags. Clothing trends include bell bottoms and high waisted pants. Fur (go faux!) is big again, and can be found grazing a collar or cuff. Pleats are neat and can be found in skirts and pants alike.
The palette for this fall is varied, but leans toward the romantic. Imagine pleated skirts in pale pinks. Wide legged pants in goldenrod or olive green. Silk bow tie shirts in bronze or burnt orange. The colors are rich and deep on one side, and light and ethereal on the other. Go with muted neutrals with pops of fiery reds and oranges. Choose items in midnight blue, silver, forest green and plum. Darker jewel tones are key.
For shoes, many of your current collection will fit right in, including your reptile and suede kicks from years past. Satin and patent leather are once again taking center stage. And do not leave out the details! Shoes with buckles, laces and rivets are still in the spotlight. Another cute trend that has been growing in popularity is wearing a crew sock with booties or shoes. Done properly, this can add an element of style that will put you at the head of the class!
Leather accessories are hot once again, so look for cuff bracelets and choker necklaces.
Have fun with accessories this fall. Retailers are stocking their shelves now with the hottest trends and having great sales on the summer inventory. So get out there and shop!!!!
