Happy Anniversary!

mexico66I recently celebrated my one year anniversary. I thought it was an important milestone. Until Asics founder, Kihachiro Onitsuka, had to show me up and boast the fact that it was 60 years ago that he started the sporting brand Onitsuka Tiger.

I can remember the first person to tell me about Tiger shoes. It was my Italian cousin. She asked me to come with her shopping while she picked out a new pair, even though she already had one in green and one in brown. She explained to me (in Italian), so in reality it might have been a recipe for marinara, how they were the most comfortable shoes she’d ever worn. She is the cook at her family’s restaurant in Italy and is on her feet all day. These are the only shoes she wears.

After nine years in New York City and too many miles on my poor feet to count, I thought I’d give comfort a try. See if it’s everything it’s cracked up to be. I chose the Mexico66‘s. From first glance I was worried that they didn’t have an arch. But the second I put them on, the soft rubbery feeling told me I was wrong. So it passed the function test, but how would it measure up in the fashion column? Would they be cute enough? What could I wear them with? And would they make my size 8.5 feet look as long as a cruise ship? After a couple runway worthy stomps I had all my answers. I was even confident below my ankles wouldn’t get mistaken for a Royal Caribbean billboard. Now if only I could find pants that can achieve the same feat!
