Gift cards don't have to be impersonal

by Megan on December 5, 2008

Holiday shopping this year hasn’t been too bad for me. Maybe that’s because I’ve been buying gift cards. Now, I know what you’re going to say; Gift cards are so impersonal. I agree with you 100%.

But I’ve been thinking that when it comes down to it, it’s a heck of a lot easier than spending hours in the mall or online hunting down just the right gift (or so you think), only to have the gift be returned, end up in the closet, or even regifted. Just think about some of the gifts that you received last year that haven’t even made their way out of their boxes. Wouldn’t you rather have received a gift card so that you can pick out the perfect gift yourself?

And who’s to say that gift cards aren’t personal? Make them personal. Buying someone a movie gift card? Pick up some of your recipient’s favorite movie snacks and make it a gift basket. Make it an IOU for a movie-date. Get creative, get personal.

Fandango even offers gift cards (Fandango Bucks Gift Cards) that can be used at over 15,000 theaters nationwide, so no matter where your recipient lives, they’ll be able to find a movie theater nearby. Better yet, you can choose your own card design or even customize your own card.
